Terms of Use

Last updated: March 25, 2026

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using FreeVideoCompress ("the Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Use. If you do not agree to these terms, please do not use the Service.

2. Description of the Service

FreeVideoCompress is a free, browser-based media processing tool that allows users to:

  • Compress videos — Reduce file size using H.264 or H.265 codecs with quality, CRF, bitrate, or target file size controls.
  • Convert video to GIF — Extract and convert short video clips to animated GIF format with timeline trimming and cropping.
  • Extract audio — Convert video files to MP3 format.

All processing is performed locally in your web browser. No files are transmitted to our servers.

3. Use of the Service

3.1 Permitted Use

You may use the Service for any lawful personal or commercial purpose, including compressing videos you own or have the right to process.

3.2 Prohibited Use

You agree not to use the Service to process, reproduce, or distribute content that:

  • Infringes any copyright, trademark, or other intellectual property right;
  • Is defamatory, obscene, or unlawful;
  • Violates any applicable local, national, or international law or regulation;
  • You do not have the legal right to process or distribute.

Because processing occurs entirely in your browser, we have no ability to monitor the content of files you process. You are solely responsible for ensuring you have the right to process any file you use with the Service.

4. Intellectual Property

The FreeVideoCompress website, its design, branding, and original code are owned by us and protected by applicable intellectual property laws. You may not reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works from the site itself without our written permission.

All rights to the files you process remain with their original rights holders. We claim no ownership over any media you upload or process using the Service.

5. Third-Party Technology

The Service makes use of open-source libraries including FFmpeg (LGPL/GPL licensed) and MediaBunny. Use of these libraries is subject to their respective licenses. These libraries are loaded and executed entirely within your browser.

6. Disclaimer of Warranties

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranty of any kind, express or implied. We do not warrant that:

  • The Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of viruses or other harmful components;
  • The compression results will meet your specific quality or size requirements;
  • The Service will be compatible with all video formats, codecs, or devices.

Video processing depends on your device's hardware, browser, and available memory. Results may vary. Always keep a backup of your original files before processing.

7. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, we shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of or inability to use the Service, including but not limited to data loss, loss of files, or damage to your device.

Our total liability for any claim arising out of or relating to these Terms shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the twelve months preceding the claim (which, given the Service is free, is zero).

8. Availability and Modifications

We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue the Service (or any part of it) at any time without notice. We may also update these Terms at any time. The updated revision date will be shown at the top of this page. Your continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance.

9. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with applicable law. Any disputes arising from these Terms or your use of the Service shall be resolved in the appropriate jurisdiction.
